Briançon B&B  in the perigord vert

This enchanting maison de maître, originally a C14th walnut mill, straddles a burbling stream that meets la Sauvanie, and ultimately la Dronne in the Perigord Vert region of South West France, and is situated half-way between the towns of Angoulème and Perigueux.

Set alone 300m  from the nearest quiet road, the property comprises of 2 hectares of meadow and magnificent English-style gardens with many rare and beautiful plants including Paeonia rockii, roses in abundance, magnolia, wisteria and much, much more. In 1803 it was reconfigured into its current shape; and between 2000 and 2003 the whole house was refurbished, internally and externally, to an exacting and luxurious standard.  There is a large, salt-water, heated swimming pool in the grounds, open between May and October.

The owner, Michael Armitage, ran the very successful, ‘Interesting Wine Club’, in London, before retiring to the Dordogne in 2001 and he maintains a full and exciting vintage cellar, from which bottles - including Bordeaux going back to 1924 - may be purchased to accompany meals.  Katie Armitage is currently president of the local société du jardinage and also runs residential creative textile workshops under the name, Les Soeurs Anglaises
